IES Exam 2017:Tips and Tricks to Prepare for Indian Engineering Services Exam

IES - Indian Engineering Services are aimed towards India's Governmental technical and managerial functions. IES exam is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) and IES officers are appointed by Union Government as per recommendation of UPSC. Only few hundred seats are available for IES officers, but many of thousands aspirant appear for examination and apply for same. As vacancies are very limited, not only in India, all over the world, so the exam paper is justified to be critical and tough competition. In society, a lot of respect and importance is given to IES officers. Clearing the IES prelims and mains exam leads to become an IES officer working in railways, manufacturing, roads, inspection, public works, and power and telecommunications units of public sector. IIS and IIT are toppers of IES exam from very few years. For being an IES officer, you will have to pass three stages, first one is prelims exam, second is mains exam and last one is personal Interview round.

Eligibility for appearing for IES Exam is -
- Candidates having Bachelors Degree in Engineering (B. E or B. Tech)
- Candidates having M. Sc Degree or other degree equivalent with Electronics Communications, Wireless Communications, Radio Engineering or Radio Physics. (Certain posts accepts special subjects)
- Age Criteria for IES examination is age between 21 yrs to 30 yrs.

Tips and Tricks for preparing for IES (Indian Engineering Services) Exam-
- For General English - Understanding about the subject and basic knowledge of English will be tested through General English paper.
- For increasing your vocabulary, set a daily target of new learning words
- Clear your concepts of usage of words, tenses and speech and basic English Grammar
- English various newspapers and English trending magazines can help a lot to increase vocabulary.
- Antonyms and synonyms of the words also required to memorised
- Previous year question papers are great key of expecting exam pattern and type of questions
- For General knowledge - For preparing for Current affairs, your general knowledge should be sound. Every source from where you can get current news should be entertained. Main topics which are covered in Current affairs are Current National and International affairs, Budget & five years plan, who is who, financial news, currencies, sports, Innovations, Government schemes, important days and awards.
- Study out the weak subjects you are not familiar with because bad preparation of some unfamiliar topics can waste a lot of time in examination and can lead to negative marking in examination.
- Numerical questions are more interesting rather than Subjective theory or questions to memorise, so if you feel boredom from study after studying 1-2 hours, move to numerical questions.
- Do not totally rely on teachings of coaching classes, make your own notes and study accordingly, Questions in UPSC exams are directly picked from standard books. Even you should start your preparation from 2nd year of your Engineering degree.
