Scholarships have been and are always a great confidence booster for students. Monetary help for education is desired by all students especially for higher education which now a days is beyond everyone’s reach. So there are various scholarships that are offered for different courses in India for the benefit of the students who dream to achieve more and big but are not financially strong enough to make that dream a reality. Engineering is one such course that requires huge investment. So, engineering students in India should be aware of the kind of scholarships offered for their benefit. Scholarships overseas are well known but when it comes to India most of us are hardly aware of them. So here at EducationForever we have tried to enlist the various government and private scholarships offered for engineering students.

All the engineering students must be aware of the scholarships offered to them. Those applying in 2016 should go through this article for a better understanding of the scholarships offered to them. They should go for colleges that they want to take admission in and not settle for colleges with low tuition fees.

Engineering course in India is one of the most in demand, therefore, a large number of government and private scholarships are offered to worthy students. Here we enlist you the best scholarships offered in India that will help you monetarily and boost your confidence-

  1. L&T Build India Scholarship: This scholarship is offered by Larsen & Toubro Limited. This is given to students who have taken up the course of M.Tech in Construction Technology and Management IT. The candidates must not have age more than 23 as on 1st July 2016 to be eligible to apply. Candidate must be a Civil or Mechanical Engineer with aggregate of 65% from a recognized Indian University. Selection scheme includes written test and interview that will be conducted in IIT Delhi/Madras. Medical Fitness is a must for final selection. Rs. 9000/- will be provided every month to the selected candidates for two years.

  1. IET India Scholarship: IET stands for Institution for Engineering and technology. This scholarship is given on merit-based selection criteria and the total scholarship amounts to Rs. 8, 00,000/-.

There are two categories for this scholarship i.e. General and Women Category. There is region wisedistribution and there are a total of five regions i.e. Regional South 1 which includes students from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Regional South 2 that includes students from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Regional north, Regional East + North East and Regional West.

General Category- There are two winners per region and two at the National level. Women Category- There are two winners per region and two at the National level. At the regional level the winner gets Rs. 40,000/- and a certificate and the Runner gets Rs. 20,000 and a certificate. At the national level the winner gets Rs. 1, 00,000/- and a certificate and the Runner gets Rs. 75,000 and a certificate.

Eligibility- Any second and third year full time regular UG Engineering program student from an AICTE/UGC approved university student can apply for it. All the credit courses must have been cleared in a single attempt with an aggregate of 60% in all the semesters cleared so far.

  1. ONGC Scholarship for SC/ST Students: This scholarship is offered to students who are pursuing professional courses like engineering. They offer 500 scholarships out of which 247 will be offered to students pursuing engineering. The selected students are given an amount of Rs. 4000/- per month for four years and the scholarship is subject to renewal every year.

Eligibility- The annual family income of the student should not be more than Rs. 4.5 Lacs per annum to avail this scholarship. Students should have secured a minimum of 60% in class 12 and 60% in graduation if they are pursuing Masters.

 Last date for submission of ONGC Scholarship form is November 15, 2016.

  1. LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship: This scholarship is for students with merit and from economically weaker families to pursue their higher studies. This is applicable for students who are pursuing graduation in any stream from a Government/Private college. The selected students are provided Rs. 10,000/- annually to pursue higher education provided the family income does not exceed Rs. 1Lac. It is provided for the entire duration of the course.
  2. MOMA Scholarship 2016-Merit cum Means scholarships 2016: This is offered by Ministry of Monitory Affairs, Government of India. This is given to students from NationalMinority community i.e. Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Parsis and Jains. It is also a merit cum means scholarship and every year more than 20,000 scholarships are given.

Students are paid Rs. 10,000 per year (Rs. 5,000 for day scholars) + Course Fee.

Eligibility- Can be availed by students whose family annual income is not more that Rs. 2.5 lakhs and who are enrolled in engineering colleges in India. The candidate must have 50% aggregate in the last exam passed. This scholarship is provided to two students from each family. The scholarship is to be provided in the ascending order from lowest order from Below Poverty Line families. 30% of scholarship will be remarked for girl students.

The last date to apply for merit cum means scholarship is 30th September for fresh scholarships and 15th November for renewal scholarships.

  1. NTPC Scholarship: This is for both degree and diploma regular courses. NTPC Ltd a Premier Public Sector Enterprise in Power Sector offers the scholarship for SC/ST and PH students who are pursuing full time Diploma course in engineering in college. Candidates in 2nd year of Diploma of engineering can only apply for the scholarship. Rs. 4000/- per month is given to every candidate every year..

  1. IOCL Scholarship 2016- Indian Oil Educational Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to the first engineering student who has taken admission in the college in the first year. It is a merit cum means scholarship for students with annual family income less than 1 Lac, and preference is given to students with family income less than 60,000. A total of 300 scholarships are given. The selected candidate is given Rs. 3000/- per month for duration of four years. IOCL also offers scholarships to class 10/ITI, MBBS and MBA students under this scholarship scheme.

Forms will be released soon by IOCL.

  • O.P.Jindal Engineering and Management Scholarships: This scholarship is awarded by O.P.Jindal Foundation to 100 students from 40 premier engineering and management institutions. This is awarded to meritorious students and has the potential to become leaders in innovation and entrepreneurial excellence. 24 Engineering and 16 Management colleges are within the scholarship list. Top three students each year from 2nd, 3rd and 4th year are awarded this scholarship. The students from following streams are eligible to applying- Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering.

Scholarship amounts to Rs. 80,000 and 1, 50,000 for each Engineering and MBA student respectively.

The last date to apply for this scholarship is August 31, 2016.

  1. Central Sector Scheme for College and University Students: This scholarship is offered by CBSE and 82000 scholarships are given (41,000 each for boys and girls). All the students who have taken admission in UG course in Indian university are eligible. All the selected candidates are given Rs. 1,000/- per month for first three years and Rs. 2,000/- per month in the 4th year provided that the annual income of the family does not exceed Rs. 6 Lacs.
