Karnataka State open school (KSOS) was established in November 1990 as an autonomous organization in pursuance of the National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. KSOS is providing Academic Courses at the Secondary and Senior Secondary levels. It also offers Elementary level Courses through its Open Basic Education Programmes (OBE). Government of India through a vested NIOS with the authority to examine and certify learners registered with it up to pre-degree level courses whether Academic, Technical or Vocational. Sustainable inclusive learning with universal and flexible access to quality school education and skill development.
Karnataka State Open School provides a foundation education. These courses are equivalent to mainstream 8th standard. Students who complete the foundation course appear for the 10th standard exams, pre-university education, vocational education, etc. For candidates, who pass in six subjects, the government permits them to join pre-university education
(i). Providing relevant, continuing and holistic education up to the pre-degree level through Open and Distance Learning Systems.
(ii). Contributing to the Universalization of School Education.
(iii). Catering to the educational needs of the prioritized target groups for equity and social justice.
