Filling up of the post of Ordinary Grade Driver in Geological Survey of India an attached office of Ministry of Mines, New Delhi in field areas of Southern Region covering Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka & Goa, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry and Kerala on Direct Recruitment - reg.

No. of Posts :  37 (UR - 18;OBC -9; SC -5; ST -2; EWS - 3) Ex-Servicemen-4 inclusive in total no. of posts Regional Headquarters - 01; SU : Karnataka & Goa - 10; SU : Andhra Pradesh - 10; SU : Tamil Nadu & Puducherry - 04; SU : Telangana - 08; SU: Kerala - 04.

Qualifications :  (a)(i) Matriculation or its equivalent from a recognized Board or University. (ii) Driving license for Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) & Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) (b) (i) 03 (three) years experience in driving trucks, jeeps or tractors in a recognized organization(ii) Experience in repairs and maintenance of vehicles.

Level in Pay Matrix : Level 2 (Rs. 19,900 - Rs. 63,200) of Pay Matrix of 7th Central Pay Commission

Age Limits for direct recruitment : Not exceeding 25 (twenty-five) years. (Relaxable for departmental candidates up to 40 (forty) years in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Central Government from time to time). Age Relaxation w.r.t. SC/ST/OBC/Ex-SM as per extant Rules

Mode of Recruitment :Direct Recruitment - Selection through open competitive examination by holding trade test (practical and written) to be conducted by the appointing authority.

Organisation Profile : The beginning of geological investigation in India was in the early part of the nineteenth century. A few amateur geologists associated with the Survey of India and Army initiated geological studies in the country. H.W. Voysey (1818-1823) of the Great Trigonometric Survey made the first Geological Map of Hyderabad region along with a detailed report. A committee for “The Investigation of Coal and Mineral Resources” was set up in 1837. The Secretary of the Committee John McClelland made the appointment of the first professional geologist. D. H. Williams was the first Geological Surveyor appointed by the East India Company in 1846. John McClelland for the first time used the term Geological Survey of India in his report in 1848. He designated himself as officiating Surveyor, Geological Survey till 1st April 1850. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) was set up in 1851 primarily to find coal deposits for the Railways.
