I.About Us Our History Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was established in 1938, when India was rediscovering herself politically, socially and culturally. The Bhavan aims to preserve and perpetuate eternal Indian values through its conglomerate of more than 117 educational and cultural institutions. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family. Committed to this ideal of the Bhavan, The Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri began its service to education on the 2nd of August 1993 with 131 students. Since then, it has never looked back. We can today boast of a vibrant campus and milieu conducive to not only teaching and learning, but also to the development of the future citizens of our country. Our Mission BVC seeks to provide quality higher education to its students in both general education and discipline-specific courses. BVC will continue to provide its graduates with a solid academic foundation for further educational opportunities, and the knowledge and skills for career opportunities upon graduating. BVC seeks to integrate into the students’ program of study the development of skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, and written and oral communication and laboratory research techniques. BVC seeks to learn, to adapt and to lead in the creation of a pool of committed and competent individuals dedicated to the process of nation building. II. A.Principal Principal Dr. Y. Ashok, one of the young and dynamic founder staff members of Bhavan’s Vivekananda College in 1993, obtained his master’s degree in Commerce from Andhra University in 1984. He was awarded Ph.D by Osmania University in Business Management. He has a rich teaching experience of 24 years in higher education, and he strongly believes in the total all round development of students. He headed the Dept. of Commerce since its inception in 1993,before he became the Vice Principal of BVC in July 2002 to 31st July 2003. Within a short span of one year as Vice Principal, he rose to become the Principal on 1st August 2003 and has been a very dynamic leader since then. Besides being a very outstanding academician, he is also a very keen follower and participant in Sports, especially being interested in cricket, table tennis and shutle badminton. He also has a number of feathers in his cap and two recent honors that has brought in accoleds from everybody around are: He is nominated to O.U Academic Senate as a member in 2006 for a period of 3 years by the A.P State Govt. He is also nominated as a member of the Council of affiliated Colleges, O.U Hyderabad. A person with a simple persona and down to earth attitude, has grown from strength to strength in a very humble way! B.Vice - Principal Profile Dr. P. Uma obtained her master’s degree in chemistry from Osmania University, with physical chemistry as a specialization. She obtained her Ph.D from Andhra University under the guidance Of Prof. M. N. Shastry in 1986. Her Ph.D work was on the analytical and kinetic aspects of chromium VI. She has five publications to her credit in national and international journals. After completion of her Ph.D, Dr. P. Uma joined the Arts and Science College, Kakatiya University, to teach Chemistry for the under graduate students. Subsequently, she worked as lecturer for a brief period of three years in Kasturba Gandhi College for Women. She joined as one of the founder members in Bhavan’s Vivekananda College of Science, Commerce and Humanities. She established the chemistry department and was the head of the department of Chemistry for ten years. She was instrumental in starting the post graduate course in Biochemistry and is currently the Head of the department. She took over as the Vice principal of the college in the year 2004. She is an able administrator and a very good teacher. She regularly organizes academic activities like the annual lecture series,” Gyan Tarangini Vyakhyana Mala” and scientific trips for students.
