What to do after 12? This is the question that hunts the mind of every student currently in standard 12. Though most of us decide what we want to do very early on i.e. sometime around the completion of 10th boards. Mostly the subjects that we choose for 12 become the deciding factor in our career. So the selection of subject according to our interest is the initial step towards our career. However, many students tend to move away from their selected field in 12th and there is no harm in doing so. One can directly enter professional courses like engineering, medicine, design, pharmacy, law agriculture through various entrance exams or go for academic degrees in arts, science and commerce. After the completion of graduation you can look up for various competitive exams such as bank exams, civil services. After 12th one can also go for navy, army and air force. Career options after 12th in science:

Science with PCM: Students those who have opted for physics, chemistry and mathematics in class XII can take up engineering as their career option.

Science with PCB: Those who have opted for physics, chemistry and biology can go for medicine or dental studies, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, agriculture and dairy science. Options are also available in the paramedical and allied fields such as Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Audiology, Pharmacy etc. There is a huge scope for those in husbandry and veterinary sciences i.e. veterinary doctor. A combined entrance examination is conducted for this by Veterinary Council of India.

Science with PCMB: For such students both engineering and medical field is open. Admission to these professional courses is through entrance exam. If not interested in these fields students can go for B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) program of their choice of interest, which can be followed by M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D.

Career options after 12th in Arts:

If you are an arts student the best option is to go for Bachelors Degree. In this course you can choose subject or your choice i.e. Economics, Political Science, Philosophy etc. in this field you can go for subjects that you want, therefore, it is not necessary to choose course according to your 12th. Bachelor courses are available in fields of advertising, fine arts, journalism, mass communication, hotel management etc. These courses are heavily demanded and are very beneficial for students.

Career options after 12th in Commerce:

 Students those who have taken up commerce stream have a wide scope in banking and financial sector. Every subject in commerce stream deals with different category of functioning of business. Clerical posts in Government offices are also open to commerce students.

One can go for other courses as well like LLB, diploma courses and if you want to study abroad you can go for the exam of IELTS.

Hence, there are numerous career options after 12th, the only difficulty is in selecting the right option that would bear fruitful results. Your interests and ability decides your future in any stream. If you are willing to work hard you can excel in any stream. So decide carefully.

Great article! It depends about you if you are good in accounts you can choose commerce stream if you are good in science. In my suggestion you can choose science stream because their are many career opinion after doing science. 12th standard is the last stage of a student’s school life. After 12th standard, a student has to decide his path and his career. This step has to be taken after lots of planning and thinking. You just can’t afford to choose what to do after 12th standard carelessly.
