Law Degree is one of the legal professions, which provide degree at both bachelors’ level and masters’ level. The students who are seeking for career in law field can also go for Diploma degree programmes. The students have to first clear the Bachelors of Law and then only they can apply for LLM, i.e., Masters of Law Degree.

LLB, Bachelors of Law, an undergraduate program, is a five year integrated course for the students who cleared their class 12 and is a three year integrated course for those who have acquired a bachelor’s degree in any stream. This program is best for those students who have strong presence of mind and can strongly put their point of view in front of others.

Admission Process

To get the admission, candidates have to clear the entrance exams, which are conducted mainly in the month of May and June every year. Mostly, all the Universities have their own Law entrance test for the candidates. But, at all India level, Common Law Admission Test is conducted by National Law Institute to grant admission to the candidates in India. After that, Law entrance test for DU is considered as important.

The admission process doesn’t get over with entrance examinations, students have to also pass the group discussions and personal interview round conducted by the Universities, to get admission in the law colleges.

Eligibility Criteria

Students who will pass the given eligibility criteria will be able to apply for the admission in law colleges:

  • Students from General category should have scored at least 50% marks in their high school examination to apply for CLAT examination of for other law entrance examinations.
  • Students from Reserved category should have scored at least 50% marks in their high school examination to apply for CLAT examination of for other law entrance examinations.
  • To apply for entrance examination such as CLAT, students must be below 20 years of age as on July 1.
  • To apply for entrance examination in colleges such as NLU Delhi, GGSIP University, Jamia Milia Islamia, the age limit is below 21 years.
  • A student must be below 22 years of age if they want to apply for AMU Law Faculty.
  • Students must be at least 17 years of age to apply for 3 years LLB examination. There is no upper limit for the candidates for same.
  • The candidates will not be eligible for the law colleges who have completed their class 12th, graduation, or post graduation degree from Open Universities without basic qualifications.

Career Opportunities for Law Students

After completing law Degree, students can opt for many career options. They can apply to become lawyer in Central and State Government; they can opt for the position of lawyer in Defence, Labor Law, and Tax Department, and can even opt to become attorney generals, public prosecutors, judges, and many more. The candidates can also choose the career as legal advisor in many private organizations, companies, families and firms.

The students, who want to continue their study after LLB, can also go and pursue higher studies such as LLM, i.e., a post graduate course.
